How does it work?
1.Local anaesthetic is injected to numb the penis and the area is cleaned and prepared.
2. The head of the penis (glans) is exposed.
3. A protective bell is used over the glans, and the stapler device is applied over the foreskin.
4. The device then precisely cuts and closes the wound using miniature titanium staples in less than 3 minutes.
5. The area is bandaged, and aftercare instructions given, prior to discharge.
5. The staples then fall out between 1-4 weeks to leave a precise and clean scar.
6. We will see you in 4 weeks for a final review.
Comprehensive aftercare is provided for all patients.
Please note, often the frenulum (tight chord on the underside of the penis) may also be released.
Traditional Cut and stitch Circumcision
Once the anaesthetic is working, the procedure involves using a special forceps to separate and hold the foreskin away from the glans (head of the penis). The foreskin is then surgically cut with a scalpel. This leaves an open wound which often bleeds a lot due to the vascular nature of the penis. Bleeding vessels are cauterised.
Small dissolvable stitches are then used to close the wound and a dresssing is applied.
This method often takes longer (60-90 minutes). There is often increased bleeding and swelling. There may be stitch marks around the scar.

We understand that circumcision can be a big decision for men to take. We aim to clarify the main questions you may have:
Will I be awake for the procedure?
Yes. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, which means the area being operated will be numb, although you will be awake for the procedure.
Will I feel any pain during the procedure?
No. You will have an initial sting from the local anaesthetic injection, but once the penis is numb, you will not feel any pain.
How long does the circumcision operation last?
A Stapler Circumcision will take around 10-15 minutes. There will be additional time needed for consultation, preparation and aftercare.
How long do I need to take off work?
For a physical job, you will need to take 2 weeks off work. For an office job, you are able to go back to work the next day as long as you avoid heavy lifting.
Are there any activities I am unable to do after circumcision?
You will need to avoid physical exercise and heavy lifting for 2 weeks after the operation.
When can I resume sexual activity after the operation?
Sexual activity can be resumed 4-6 weeks after circumcision. This will be discussed at the 4 week follow up.
How long will it take my penis to heal following Stapler Circumcision?
The penis will be painful for a couple of days. . Most patients fully heal by 3 weeks, although this can vary between individuals.
Will the staples fall out themselves?
Yes, the staples will fall out between 1-4 weeks. If there are any retained staples, they can be easily removed at the 4 week appointment.
