Short or tight Frenulum (Frenulum Breve)
The Frenulum is the elastic fold of skin that connects the glans (head of the penis) to the foreskin on the underside of the penis.
Frenulum breve (“Short frenulum”) is a condition where the frenulum is too short and tight, resulting in painful erections.
Symptoms include:
- Pain or discomfort in the penis, especially during erection
- Premature ejaculation
- Tearing and bleeding underneath the glans penis
- Difficulty retracting the foreskin
Frenuloplasty
During Frenuloplasty the frenulum is surgically cut and elongated and then stitches applied. This can be done under local anaesthetic and can be done in 10 minutes.

We understand that circumcision can be a big decision for a man to take. We aim to clarify the main questions you may have:
Will I be awake for the procedure?
Yes. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, which means the area being operated will be numb, although you will be awake for the procedure.
Will I feel any pain during the procedure?
No. You will have an initial discomfort from the local anaesthetic injection, but once the area is numb, you will not feel any pain.
How long does the frenuloplasty operation last?
The circumcision will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
How long do I need to take off work?
You should take the day of the operation and the following day off work, and then return to work when you feel able.
When can I resume sexual activity after the operation?
Sexual activity can be resumed 4 weeks after frenuloplasty.
How long will it take my penis to heal following frenuloplasty?
Dissolvable stitches will take about 2-3 weeks to dissolve. Full healing can take upto 4 weeks, although this can vary between individuals.
