Why choose Circumcision Centre Ireland?

We are a specialist private circumcision clinic that provides ritual (also called non-therapeutic, traditional, or religious) circumcision for males of all ages. If you are looking to get your son circumcised for religious, cultural, or personal reasons, we can provide you with a safe and professional service in our purpose fitted clinic in Co. Dublin.

If you are an adult requiring circumcision, then our clinic offers first class circumcision packages with minimal waiting lists, which would otherwise be upto 3 years on HSC for medical circumcisions. As we are a small clinic and our overheads are lower, we are able to offer more competitive prices than some of the larger private hospitals, and still provide a top quality premium experience.

As circumcision which is not for medical reasons are not available on the HSC, adults or parents who would like their children to be circumcised must do so at a private clinic. At Circumcision Centre Ireland, your experience is important to us. Our professional team is committed to provide you with the highest quality of care and a virtually pain-free procedure with full aftercare support.

On the day
Circumcision
What is the best age for circumcision?

The best time for male circumcision is ideally as soon as possible after birth, as long as there are no contraindications (see below). This is because at this age the procedure is easier to perform, recovery is faster, and there are less complications.

Is circumcision safe?

Yes - if done in a suitable medical setting and by a competent practitioner using sterile instruments. Our circumcision clinic is registered with the Health Inspectorate Wales (HIW), and adheres to strict infection control protocols.

All procedures are performed by Dr Wani. Click here to read his profile.

Is circumcision painful?

No, as all patients receive local anaesthetic injection prior to undergoing the procedure. This means that they will not feel pain, although they will feel a touching sensation.

Are there any reasons (contraindications) for circumcision not to be performed?

These will be screened during the booking process as well as by the doctor on the day of the procedure.

Contraindications include:

Medical reasons

  • Weight below 2.5kg

  • Age less than 12-24 hours

  • Premature babies with corrected gestational age <37 weeks

  • Bleeding disorders (including haemophilia, vitamin K deficiency, von Willebrands disease, and more)

  • Any current illness or medical condition that requires monitoring. Certain medical conditions may require a letter from the relevant specialist confirming that the child is able to undergo circumcision.

Anatomical reasons

  • Hypospadias/epispadias

  • Chordee

  • Webbed penis

  • Severe buried penis

  • Other conditions including penile torsion, ambigious genitalia, hooded foreskin

Consent issues:

  • Lack of informed parental consent

The clinic
Is circumcision free on the HSE/HSC?

On the HSE or HSC circumcision is usually done for medical reasons. This is mainly to combat diseases of the foreskin, the most common of which is lichen sclerosus (also known as balanitis xerotic obliterans – BXO).

Circumcision done for religious and social reasons are usually done in private clinics and incur a private fee.

Which area does the circumcision clinic cover?

Our circumcision clinic receives patients from all regions of Ireland including Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Knock and surrounding areas.

We are near to the M1 and M50 motorways, as well as 15 minutes drive from Dublin Airport.

Booking process
How do I book a circumcision?

You can book an appointment for circumcision by submitting the booking form, or by calling us to arrange an appointment. On paying the deposit you will then be sent an email shortly afterwards with important information.

What is the cost of circumcision?

The price of circumcisions currently start at around €500.

The price will include pre-op consultation (if undertaken in the same appointment), the procedure, as well as aftercare and a follow up appointment.

What payment methods can I use?

You are able to pay the fee by both cash or card. Deposits, however, will be taken via card only.

What if I need to cancel or rebook an appointment?

You will be allowed to change an appointment once, e.g if you child is ill. We ask for ideally 48 hours prior notice for rebooking or cancellations.

On the day
Who needs to be present with the child on the day?

One parent can be present with the child on the day. However, they will need to bring photo ID documents for BOTH parents to the appointment.

Are parents allowed to be present during the procedure?

Unfortunately, we do not allow anyone to be present in the operating room, due to our strict infection control policy. However, rest assured, your son is in good hands and will be back with you in around 15 minutes!

What is the restraining policy?

Circumcision centre Wales operates a strict restraining policy. A specially designed paediatric restraining board will be used to restrain your childs limbs. This is to allow the procedure to be performed safely.

What type of circumcision will be performed?

For babies and toddlers this will usually be the Plastibell method. However, in some cases if this is not possible, then the forceps guided method will be used.

For older children and adults, forceps guided traditional method will be used.

How long will the procedure take?

The procedure itself will take around 15 minutes. However extra time will be needed beforehand for checking in and verifying documents, as well as observation afterwards.

What aftercare will be provided?

Comprehensive aftercare instructions and emergency contact details will be provided after the procedure.

One follow up appointment, if required, will be included in the fee.
